Description
While wood bound excluders are more expensive than metal bound or plastic excluders, we have found that wood bound excluders will maintain the appropriate bee space above the brood box bars. In addition, you can use a wood bound excluder as a means of delivering emergency feed in the winter in the form of dampened sugar by placing the excluder on top of your brood chamber, placing a sheet of wax paper on the excluder and mounding the sugar on the paper. These excluders are heavy enough to handle the weight of the sugar without distorting.
The wood on our excluders receive the same finish treatment as our assembled hive bodies, except we use a contrasting color.
